Andres C. Salazar, PhD – Electrical/Solar EngineeringPrior to his appointment at NNMC in 2007 Dr. Salazar was the PNM Chair on Microsystems, Commercialization and Technology at the University of New Mexico, a joint appointment since 2002 as Professor in both the UNM School of Engineering as well as the UNM Anderson Schools of Management. Before starting his academic career at UNM, Dr. Salazar had been in industry for over thirty years as a researcher, manager and executive at high tech companies in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, California and Georgia. Dr. Salazar is familiar with the engineering and economic challenges of electric power from renewable sources having worked on energy storage projects for PNM under contract from UNM. Dr. Salazar earned a PhD in EE from Michigan State University and an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in the U.K. |

Fangyang Shen, PhD – Computer Science and Software Engineering Fangyang Shen received his PhD from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He has accumulated over seven years of research experience in the areas of information systems, computer security and computer networks with thirteen scholarly publications in journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include the design of routing protocols for wireless mesh networks, models for parallel disk systems and e-business systems. His industrial experience includes a four-year position at the Guangdong Fuel Company in Guangzhou, China as a business information system designer and database manager where he was responsible for the finance, business and fixed assets management systems and training programs for system users. Dr. Shen has experience in data collection and analysis, computer control and security, areas of importance in the monitoring and parametric modeling of distributed energy systems.

Feng Shi, PhD –Solar/Mechanical Engineering Full C.V. Feng Shi joins NNMC as a seasoned researcher and instructor in solar energy having worked in the area since 1988 with advanced education and research at University of Rochester and at University of Toledo where he earned his PhD in Applied Physics. His early work in solar systems was at the Solar Energy Research Institute at the Yunnan Normal University in China where he received his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. There he carried out large scale solar thermal system design and installation of systems while assessing manufacturing methods and conducting simulation of solar thermal application systems. He is the author of thirteen scholarly journal or conference articles in the solar energy area.. Dr. Shi has over seventeen years of experience in solar energy systems – thermal, concentrated solar and photovoltaic – with several US patents attributed to his research.

Ivan Lopez, PhD, Chair, Department of Engineering (Electrical/Control Engineering) Ivan Lopez comes to NNMC from the University of New Mexico (UNM) with a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering. Prior to UNM Ivan Lopez was Chair of the Mechatronics Engineering Faculty for two years at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Cd. Juarez, Mexico. There he became a certified instructor in problem-based learning and taught courses in control, logic systems, engineering math and dynamics. Prior to his academic experience Ivan Lopez was engaged in industrial work at VI Technology and JOT Automation, both companies in Mexico and Schlumberger in Houston, TX. Dr. Lopez earned a summa cum laude Bachelor of Industrial Physics and a Master of Science in Control Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Monterrey, Mexico. Dr. Lopez is experienced in control and automation, two areas that figure prominently in the study and modeling of the electric grid, smart inverters and optimal control of large systems. |
