All persons intending to enroll in for-credit classes at Northern must apply and be accepted before they can register. The best time to apply is at least one month before classes begin. Because of the Christmas and New Year holidays, the deadline for applications for spring 2009 is December 15, 2008.
You only need to apply for re-admission for spring 2009 if you last attended Northern before summer 2007. If you attended in summer 2007, fall 2007, spring 2008, summer 2008, or fall 2008 you are considered a Continuing Student and do not need to re-apply for spring 2009.

Northern is an open-admissions college, so you don't need to have minimum ACT or SAT scores to be admitted, but if you are new to college and seeking a certificate or degree, you will need to take the college's COMPASS Placement Test to determine your appropriate course level and your eligibility for Financial Aid. If you are seeking to enroll as a concurrent/dual credit high school student, you will also need to take the college's COMPASS Placement Test to determine your appropriate course level. If you are a transfer student, your placement will be determined by an evaluation of your transfer credits as recorded on official transcripts sent from all of your previous colleges and universities directly to the Office of Admissions and Records.
