As Northern New Mexico College continues to pursue its vision “To become a Regional
University with six distinct colleges by 2010”; the campus growth and development become a
key factor to the institutions success.
The creation of a Facility Master Plan will insure the framework for future development of the college, and to provide guidelines in which future planners will follow in order to strengthen NNMCs’ unique position both geographically and culturally in Northern New Mexico.
The Master Plan incorporates elements of the college’s mission and vision to provide continuity to projects that will enhance and embellish the physical environment. The defined processes establish the foundation for Northern to meet its educational goals.
The campus should be both the backdrop and the inspiration for creative thinking and learning.
One of the first impressions of a college is formed by its physical appearance and condition.
Northern continues to make great improvement in the overall campuses physical development; which will with time make our educational setting one of the finest in the Southwest, if not the Nation.
The key elements in the Facility Master Plan used to develop and maintain Northerns’ campus
environment include: 1) Building site considerations, 2) Pedestrian/Vehicle circulation/Parking
considerations, 3) Landscaping/site design elements,
4) Maintenance of existing facilities and 5) Development of design standards.
The Facilities’ Master Plan is a living document that must be flexible to change. The plan is a valuable tool to project goals and to estimate costs for future growth. The Master Plan will assist Northern in its long term planning to ensure that the college goals are met.
